Dear colleagues,

The International Symposium on Bilingualism (ISB) was first organized in 1997 at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. It has since then been organized as a bi-annual event, typically alternating between European and non-European venues. As such, ISB has been hosted by the following institutions: University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of the West of England (Bristol), Arizona State University (Tempe), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Hamburg, Utrecht University, University of Oslo, Nanyang Technological University, Rutgers University, University of Limerick, University of Alberta, University of Warsaw and Macquarie University.

At the conference in Hamburg, official bylaws were passed and an ISB Steering committee was installed, where members of the bilingualism research community serve to guard the nature of the ISB conferences; ISB has traditionally brought together linguistic, sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic and neurolinguistics perspectives on bilingualism and because of this has developed as one of the premier conferences for bilingualism research.

The next ISB conference (ISB15) will be hosted by the Basque Centre on Cognition, Brain and Language in Donostia - San Sebastián (Spain), in 2025. The current steering committee is now inviting proposals from interested parties wishing to organize the ISB conference in 2027. For more information and details on how to indicate an interest in organizing the next ISB conference, we would like to refer you to the Guidelines in the attached file. We thank you for your consideration.

The current ISB steering committee:
-Mark Antoniou – Western Sydney University (Chair)
-Piotr Romanowski – University of Warsaw (Secretary)
-Nan Xu Rattanasone – Macquarie University (Outgoing ISB Organiser)
-Antje Stoehr – Basque Centre on Cognition, Brain and Language (Incoming ISB Organiser)
-Veronika Makarova – University of Saskatchewan (Consulting Member)
-Angela de Bruin – University of York (Early Career Researcher Member)
