Brief Description:
An artificial language invented by Ludovic Lazarus Zamenhof (1859-1917) in Poland. The first work on the language was published in 1887. The language was originally called the 'Lingvo Internacia' or 'International Language'. It is the only artificial language which has been learned by children as a first language, though their precise number is unclear.
