Brief Description: The language or languages of the Mayan glyphs, these are still too recently deciphered to be fully understood. The monuments are mostly in a language of the Cholan subgroup, an archaic version of either Chol or Chortí; they may also be in one of the Tzeltalan languages, which are closely related to Cholan. The codices seem to be often in Yucatec. (Information provided by Lyle Campbell).
